Start with the decision the plan must support
A business plan is not a school essay. It should help a founder, partner, lender or investor decide what to do next.
- Who has the problem?
- What are they doing today?
- Why is your approach better enough to change behaviour?
Build the operating model
Explain how customers discover, buy, receive and continue using the product or service. Name the people, tools, suppliers and approvals required.
- Sales channel
- Delivery process
- Key partners
- Major risks
Make the financial section testable
Separate facts from estimates. Show price, expected sales volume, direct cost, monthly overhead and cash needed before the business can support itself.
- Base case
- Conservative case
- Break-even point
- Funding use
End with the next 90 days
Convert the plan into specific tests, owners and deadlines. A shorter plan that changes decisions is more useful than a polished document nobody follows.
